The Blair County Sheriff’s Office is asking the state for a grant of 5.14 million dollars to help update emergency equipment.
The Altoona Mirror reports plans to ask the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency for grant money to replace outdated radios used by county law enforcement officers and to introduce body and vehicle cameras for the sheriff and deputies.
The grant could also pay for gym memberships for sheriff deputies, an eligible expense based on guidelines.
Lt. Kermit Alwine advised commissioners Tuesday of his office’s recent efforts to complete the application for the large grant that must be submitted by Oct. 13.
The Altoona-Blair County Airport now offers jet service.
The Altoona Mirror Reports for the first time in the airports 73 year history of passenger service jet service is now offered.
The airport manager says the change comes with Contour Airlines assuming daily passenger service under the federal Alternate Essential Air Service program. Contour provides jet service to Philadelphia through an interline agreement with American Airlines
The service includes 12 round trip flights to Philadelphia a week.
The jet service will differ from the airport’s previous offering of prop plane service. The manager says the jets are larger, faster and more comfortable and include a bathroom flight attendant, drinks and snacks.
To celebrate these new additions, Contour is offering an introductory fare of $49 each way when purchased by Oct. 31.
State police say three Centre County men are facing charges after being indicted by a grand jury for allegedly dealing various drugs throughout the area.
Troopers say 41-year-old Charles Scott, of State College, 49-year-old Woody Jones and 54-year-old Dennis Brown, both of Bellefonte, each face several felonies related to the manufacturing and distribution of illicit drugs.
According to the grand jury report, the three men are accused of selling various quantities of heroin, fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine in and around the Centre County region.
All three men are being held at the Centre County Prison, and were denied bail, according to online court records.
