A State College man accused of raping a 1-year-old girl was convicted Tuesday. WJAC-TV reports that 54 years old Jackson Baker was found guilty on all the charges he faced, including rape of a child and unlawful contact with a minor.

Baker was arrested in June of 2019 after a witness told police that, earlier that year, he saw Baker sexually assaulting the infant inside the basement of a home. Police say the witness also claimed that Baker had been investigated by Children and Youth Services in Florida. Baker is scheduled to be sentenced in November.

Volunteers from Pennsylvania are working to prepare Florida evacuation shelters.

Red Cross Greater Pennsylvania has a team of volunteers at an aid station in DeSoto County. Red Cross officials say the Tampa area has not had a direct hit from a hurricane in more than one-hundred years.  Meteorologists report the now-Category three storm is expected to make landfall along the Florida gulf coast sometime tomorrow..

A Tyrone man is facing charges after police said he crashed his car, destroyed a hydrant and then injured an officer. WTAJ –TV reports 24 year old Conner Patterson crashed his car Monday night around 10pm on West 10th street and Washington Avenue in Tyrone.  Police reports show Patterson had  a blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit.

Reports say Patterson also resisted arrest and caused an officer to be injured during the incident. Patterson now faces numerous charges including aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and multiple DUI-related charges. He was placed in Blair County Prison on $25,000 bail.  A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 4.

With just weeks to go before the general election, new polls show the Democratic candidates are leading the Republican candidates in statewide contests.  New polling released by Marist yesterday shows Democratic Lt. Governor John Fetterman ahead of Republican Dr. Mehmet Oz 51-percent to 41-percent in the race for U.S. Senate.  In the contest for governor, Democratic State Attorney General Josh Shapiro has a wider lead over Republican State Senator Doug Mastriano at 53-percent to 40-percent.  According to the poll, inflation is the top issue on the minds of voters this election cycle
