A fire at the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society in Altoona, destroyed some supplies Sunday afternoon, but no animals were injured. A fire broke out in a few of the society’s sheds in the backyard. The humane society lost all of its extra cages and donations are being accepted to help the organization rebuild.

An Altoona man was arrested for aggravated assault after causing a disturbance outside of a home. George Alley Jr. is currently in the Blair County Prison after being unable to post bail and is charged with public drunkenness, possession of drug and drug paraphernalia, and aggravated assault. 

A man who hit and killed a 23-year-old Amish man riding a scooter was sentenced in court Tuesday. Christopher Hort pled guilty in March to a felony of leaving the scene of an accident involving death or personal injury. On Tuesday he was sentenced to 363 days to three years in prison.

A Tyrone man is facing charges after police said he threatened to kill two women, and himself, unless he got his dog back. Through the investigation, police read numerous text messages from Michael Holden that had threatened to kill each woman, who are sisters, and demanded his dog back by a certain time. Holden was taken into custody and placed in Blair County Prison.

A 4th of July celebration led to a house fire in Upper Yoder Monday night. The fire broke out around 9:30 p.m. on South Clearfield Street. A neighbor was setting off fireworks when the house caught on fire. There was moderate smoke and water damage to the remainder of the house. No injuries were reported, and the fire has been ruled accidental.

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Pennsylvania is currently four dollars and 87 cents, while the national average is four dollars and 77 cents.
