A prisoner who escaped during a work-release in Clearfield County was captured Friday evening. Donald J. White was apprehended after state police received a tip. White is now facing a felony escape charge in addition to several other charges he received in January that reportedly involved kidnapping and strangulation.

A Saxton man is facing homicide charges after police say he allegedly killed his mother.

Charles McCahan has been charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, strangulation, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. Additionally, he’s also facing burglary and trespassing charges. He’s being held in Bedford County Prison without bail.

An Altoona man is facing robbery charges after reportedly taking a woman’s cell phone after she wouldn’t show him what was on it. Tanner Hoover got into an argument with a woman Thursday night. The woman told police that Hoover wanted to see what was on her phone and she refused to show him. They struggled before he was able to get the phone and left with it. Hoover is facing robbery and receiving stolen property charges.

One person has died after a fire broke out at an apartment Sunday morning in Saint Marys. Elk County Coroner Michelle A. Muccio said that Timothy A. Beardsley died due to smoke inhalation and was pronounced dead at the scene. Beardsley was the only occupant in an apartment of the building. The manner of death has been ruled accidental.

The Pennsylvania Professional Fire Fighters Association is endorsing state Attorney General Josh Shapiro for governor.  Union officials reportedly gathered in Harrisburg Friday to make the announcement. Shapiro, a Democrat, will face Republican nominee State Senator Doug Mastriano in November’s general election.

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Pennsylvania is currently five dollars and 2 cents. The national average is four dollars and 98 cents.
