A Bellefonte woman was pronounced dead Friday afternoon after being flown from a crash scene for her injuries. Sherry Thompson was reportedly driving in her Dodge Dakota on Nittany Valley Drive when the car in front of her began to slow down to make a left turn onto Snydertown Road. Thompson crashed into the back of the car and proceeded to cross lanes of traffic before hitting a guardrail and finally coming to a stop. The driver of the other car reported no injuries.
New charges have been brought against suspended Somerset County District Attorney Jeffrey Thomas after he allegedly assaulted his wife in May 2021. Thomas was arraigned Monday on the new charges that include simple assault, harassment and recklessly endangering another person. He now resides in Cambria County Prison on $25,000 bail.
Two Bedford residents face a slew of charges after they allegedly went into a home, stole multiple items, and then attempted to sell cut-off catalytic converters for money. Carl Morris and Vicki Kruse face charges of burglary, criminal trespass, receiving stolen property and drug-related offenses.
State police in Somerset County have charged a Berlin man after he was accused of raping an unconscious woman at his home. Troopers say Christopher Crites faces charges of rape of an unconscious victim, sexual assault and aggravated indecent assault. The victim told investigators that she had been out drinking with friends the night before and had woke up the next morning, “confused and sore,” and was laying next to a naked man on a couch in a house that she was unfamiliar with. That man was identified as Crites.
Authorities have released the latest lineup of people wanted on warrants in the area as of April 22. The Somerset County Sheriff’s Department and the Somerset County Department of Emergency Services are looking for Zachary Howard, wanted for domestic charges, Robert Rigo wanted for drug charges, Barry Mish for domestic charges and Matthew Bowman wanted for drug charges.
