A house in Sandy Township collapsed Wednesday after a fire broke out. The home on Sierra Heights Road caught fire around 11 a.m. Four people were inside the home at the time, but were able to escape before it collapsed. They were taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for their injuries. The state police fire marshal is looking into the cause of the fire.

A Johnstown man is behind bars after police say he sexually abused a boy on three separate occasions. Police were contacted by Children Youth Services in June 2021 who reported sexual abuse of a young boy. After interviewing the victim police found that Leroy Henderson III abused him three different times when he was younger. The first time Henderson touched the boy inappropriately over his pants. On other occasions, Henderson allegedly abused the boy in a play area of the house and when the parents were away. He is currently lodged in Cambria County jail.

A 25-year-old Windber man is behind bars after police reported he had pictures of prepubescent girls on his cellphone. On Nov. 18, 2021, a search warrant was obtained for Pinella’s Windber home. Police took three cellphones that Pinella said he was the sole owner of. All three phones were forensically analyzed. On one of them investigators said they found more images of young children fully naked. Pinella is being held at Cambria County Prison with bail set at 10 percent of $200,000.

Somerset police are searching for a wanted man they said strangled a woman and threw a hammer at her head as she tried to get away. The victim provided a written statement that Steven L. Kerik was angry that she didn’t want to go to the local gas station with him and when she went to lay in the bed, he followed and told her to get off the blankets because he paid for them and they’re his. After he strangled her, she got away and got a box cutter from the kitchen and chased Kerik out of the house. Kerick left the home while yelling “the last face you’ll see is mine,” Steven L. Kerick is currently wanted by police but has no known address. If you have any information about the whereabouts of Kerik, you’re asked to call Somerest police at 814-445-4596.

A Johnstown man is behind bars after police reported he raped a teenager while they were asleep. The then-teenager told Jackson Township police in an interview that they had fallen asleep on the couch when David Kenneth Dernar, who was around 34 at the time, forcibly turned the teen over and raped them, causing the teen to wake up. He was arraigned on felony charges that include rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault without consent and sexual assault.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reports our central region is showing 696 new COVID-19 cases since Tuesday, bringing our total to 167,752 known COVID-19 cases.
