A state Supreme Court ruling Friday threw out Governor Wolf’s  statewide mandate that face coverings be worn inside K-12 school buildings. The justices upheld a lower court ruling that the state’s acting health secretary Alison Beam lacked authority when she required masks. The ruling says Beam also acted without having an existing disaster emergency in place from the governor.

A Northern Cambria man was charged with sending child pornography after police say they received tips after photos and videos were uploaded to online platforms. Specialists searched home of Jason Douthit on Friday and during the search of his home, police say Douthit admitted to possessing the pornographic files and sending them to individuals over the internet. At least 10 images and videos were reportedly located on Douthit’s cell phone, one involving an infant.

State police are investigating after someone shot a BB gun at a garage in Clearfield County causing damage. An unknown individual shot a BB gun at a garage located at the on Horseshoe Curve Road. A small glass window and garage siding were damaged in the incident totaling $400 in damages. A Friday morning fire at a former Hollidaysburg business is under investigation by the State Police Fire Marshal. Firefighters were dispatched Friday morning for reports of a structure fire at the former L. Woods Photography Center. Nobody was in the building at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. Eight fire departments from Blair and Cambria counties responded to the scene.

A Johnstown man faces a slew of felony sexual-assault related charges for allegedly raping teenager while she was passed out. The teen told police in an interview that she was babysitting in August of 2020 when the assault happened. While the children were sleeping, Alexander Ortiz-Rivera started giving her alcohol from a blue-colored bottle. Later in that day, Ortiz said he had sex with her and that “she loved it” even though she was asleep. He entered a guilty plea to the allegations.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reports 8,391 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported since Saturday, bringing the state total to 1,837,742 known cases since the start of the pandemic. Our central region shows 381 new cases since Saturday, bringing our total to 123,823 known COVID-19 cases.
