Sammy Hagar 2/5/19

Sammy Hagar‘s supergroup, the Circle, has just rolled out a 23-date spring tour in support of its first album of all original material, titled Space Between, set for release on May 10th. The band, which also features Van Halen‘s Michael AnthonyJason Bonham, and guitarist Vic Johnson, kicks off the dates on April 19th at Reno, Nevada’s Grand Theatre and closes things out on June 7th at Tinley Park, Illinois at Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre. Supporting the band at various stops on the tour are Vince Neil and Night Ranger, respectively.

The Circle plays songs from all eras of its member’ catalogues, including tracks from Van HalenLed Zeppelin — and now cuts from the band’s new album.

Hagar said of the new collection: “The 10 songs on the Space Between are not just a bunch of new songs grouped together on an album. They were sewn together conceptually for a complete mental, emotional and physical experience (kind of a Three Lock Box). Once I had the overall vision, the lyrics and music began to just flow through me.”

Sammy Hagar remains humbled by Van Halen’s incredible output during his tenure. Just prior to Van Halen’s 2007 Rock Hall induction, Hagar spoke candidly about the band’s accomplishments: [“No matter what happens at this thing, the end result is Van Halen’s legacy will always be great. Every time you hear one of them songs. . . y’know, something stupid could happen there, the whole world could laugh at us, and we could, y’know, make a joke out of this whole thing by accident — hopefully not, but if that happened, the next time you hear a Van Halen song, it’s gonna have no bearing. You’re gonna go, ‘That’s great music.'”] SOUNDCUE (:18 OC: . . . that’s great music)

Jason Bonham told us that playing drums is what keeps him tied to his father, the late-great John Bonham, who died when he was only 14: [“I have a helluva lot to live up to. A lot of people say, ‘What’s it like, y’know, you’re the son of John Bonham!’ And I say, ‘Y’know, what? It’s kinda cool, ’cause he was such an icon in such an iconic band.’ It just gives me enough get up and go to say, ‘Y’know what, I just wanna make him happy and prove to him and show him that, Dad, you’ve handed me down a business.’ Y’know, like some fathers they hand them down their work — even though he wasn’t there to hand it down to me himself, to me, I feel — if anything — he left me at such an early age, but he gave me a career.”] SOUNDCUE (:37 OC: . . . me a career)
