THERE IS PLENTY OF NEWS CONCERNING THE WORLD OF HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL IN OUR AREA.

 

THE BIGGEST NEWS IS THAT CURRENT PENN CAMBRIA HEAD COACH JON FRANCO HAS APPLIED FOR HIS FORMER JOB AT TYRONE. FRANCO BROUGHT BLAIR COUNTY AND DISTRICT 6 ITS FIRST STATE FOOTBALL TITLE BACK IN 1999 WHILE AT TYRONE, AND HE SAYS HE HAS INFOMRED PENN CAMBRIA OF HIS APPLICATION. INTERVIEWS FOR THE JOB WILL TAKE PLACE NEXT WEEK, ACCORDING TO ATHLETIC DIRECTOR LUKE RHOADES. FRANCO SPENT 18 SEASONS AT TYRONE BEFORE COMING BACK TO ALTOONA IN 2012. IF FRANCO IS HIRED AT TYRONE, PENN CAMBRIA WILL THEN NEED A NEW HEAD COACH.

 

HUNTINGDON AND GLENDALE HAVE JOINED THE LIST OF SCHOOLS THAT WILL HAVE NEW HEAD COACHES NEXT FALL. MIKE HUDY RESIGNED AT HUNTINGDON AFTER COMPLETING 7 SEASONS. MEANWHILE, GLENDALE HEAD COACH RICHARD BRANIFF RESIGNED AFTER JUST 2 SEASONS AT THE HELM. THEY JOIN WILLIAMSBURG, EVERETT, FOREST HILLS, JOHNSTOWN AND ALTOONA THAT WILL ALL HAVE NEW SIDELINE BOSSES. MOST OF THESE SCHOOLS HOPE TO HAVE NEW HEAD COACHES IN PLACE SOMETIME IN FEBRUARY.

 

THE JUNIATA MENS AND WOMENS TEAMS PICKED UP WINS LAST NIGHT. 3 EAGLES HIT DOUBLE FIGURES IN JUNIATA’S 75-67 OVER GOUCHER COLLEGE AT MEMORIAL GYM. THE EAGLES ARE NOW 8-12. THE WOMEN ALSO DEFEATED GOUCHER ON THE ROAD, 61-56. GRACIE STAUFFER LED THE EAGLES WITH 20 POINTS. JUNIATA ALSO IMPROVED TO 8-12.

 

  1. ALOUSIUS WOMEN DEFEATED FRANCISCAN UNIVERSITY LAST NGIHT 79-47. BREANA KENDRICK LED THE MOUNTIES WITH 22 POINTS. THE MT. ALOYSIUS MEN LOST TO FRANCISCAN, 63-53. AND THE PENN STATE ALTOONA WOMEN DEFEATED PITT GREENSBURG ON THE ROAD LAST NIGHT 57-46.
