ALTOONA MAY BE GETTING ANOTHER NAME TO ADD TO ITS LIST OF NFL PLAYERS. FORMER ALTOONA HIGH STANDOUT KEVIN GIVENS HAS DECLARED TO ENTER THE UPCOMING NFL DRAFT IN APRIL. GIVENS, A JUNIOR, SAYS HE FEELS HE IS READY TO MAKE THE JUMP TO THE NFL. GIVENS PLAYED DEFENSIVE TACKLE FOR THE NITTANY LIONS, GETTING MOST OF HIS PLAYING TIME IN 2017 AND 18.

 

3 OTHER NITTANY LIONS HAVE ALSO COMMITTED TO THE DRAFT PROCESS. THEY ARE OFFENSIVE LINEMEN CONNOR McGOVERN AND RYAN BATES, BOTH JUNIORS, AND DEFENSIVE TACKLE SHAREEF MILLER, ALSO A JUNIOR. IF PLAYERS ARE NOT DRAFTED, OR DO NOT HIRE AN AGENT, THEY CAN RETURN TO SCHOOL.

 

PENN STATE MADE A COACHING MOVE ON WEDNESDAY. IT IS REPORTED THAT THE SCHOOL FIRED RECEIVERS COACH DAVID CORLEY, AFTER ONLY 1 YEAR WITH THE TEAM. COACH JAMES FRANKLIN SAID THE RECEIVING UNIT UNDERACHIEVED THIS SEASON UNDER CORLEY, THUS THE REASON FOR HIS FIRING.

 

COLLEGE BASKETBALL…THE JUNIATA EAGLES HAD 4 PLAYERS HIT DOUBLE FIGURES AT THEY BEAT LANCASTER BIBLE COLLEGE 81-63 LAST NIGHT. BRANDON MARTINAZZI LED JUNIATA WITH 21 POINTS. THE EAGLES EVENED THEIR RECORD AT 6-6. MEANWHILE, THE JUNIATA EAGLE WOMENS TEAM MADE A 4TH QUARTER COMEBACK BUT FELL SHORT, LOSING 69-66 TO LYCOMING COLLEGE. THE EAGLES HAD THE BALL TRAILING BY 3 POINTS WITH 20 SECONDS LEFT, BUT TURNED THE BALL OVER WITHOUT GETTING A SHOT. GRACIE STAUFFER LED JUNIATA WITH 24 POINTS.

 

 

SEVERAL LOCAL FOOTBALL PLAYERS HAVE BEEN SELECTED TO A NEW ALL STATE FOOTBALL TEAM. THE FIRST EVER COACHES SELECT ALL STATE TEAMS FOR CLASSES 1,3,5A WERE ANNOUNCED YESTERDAY. BISHOP GUILFOYLE PLACED KOLTEN McGHEE AND BRYANT SPECK ON THE FIRST TEAM, WHILE DANIEL POTOPA AND BRENNAN DELEO WERE SELECTED FOR THE SECOND TEAM, IN 1A. HOLLIDAYSBURG’S GUS DELLINGER WAS SLECTED AS 1ST TEAM FULLBACK FOR THE 5A TEAM. JOSH HOWELLS OF HOLLIDAYSBURG WAS A 2ND TEAM SELECTION AT OFFENSIVE LINEMAN.
