SEVERAL AREA FOOTBALL PLAYERS LANDED ON THE CLASS 1,3, AND 5 ALL STATE TEAMS. BISHOP GUILFOYLE PLACEKICKER KOLTEN McGHEE WAS SELECTED TO THE 1A TEAM FOR THE SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR. HIS TEAMMATE, DEFENSIVE TACKLE A.J. ABRAHAM ALSO WAS SELECTED TO THE TEAM, ALONG WITH JUNIATA VALLEY QB QUINN ZINOBLE. DENVER LIGHT OF TYRONE WAS SELECTED TO THE CLASS 3A TEAM.

 

THE ALTOONA BASEBALL COMMUNITY HAS LOST ONE OF ITS ALL TIME BASEBALL PILLARS. IT WAS REPORTED ON SATURDAY THAT LONGTIME PRESIDENT OF THE GEORGE B. KELLEY BASEBALL FEDERATION, TOM STOUT, PASSED AWAY FROM HEART COMPLICATIONS AT THE AGE OF 82. STOUT WAS A FIXTURE IN THE LEAGUE FOR MORE THAN 60 YEARS, WITH HIS DUTIES BEING SPLIT BETWEEN MANAGING THE CPL. MILLER TEAM FOR DECADES, AND BEING PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERATION. STOUT WIL BE FOREVER KNOWN FOR HIS DREAM OF “MORE BASEBALL FOR MORE BOYS” IN THE ALTOONA AREA.

 

ONE AREA COLLEGE BASKETBALL TEAM WAS IN ACTION YESTERDAY. THE MOUNT ALOYSIUS MEN WERE BEATEN BY WISCONSIN-EAU CLAIRE 81-47 IN THE MUSIC CITY CLASSIC IN GALLATIN, TN. NATE CHRISTIAN AND JULIAN STOVER LED THE MOUNT WITH 12 POINTS APIECE. THE MOUNT, NOW 7-5, RETURN TO ACTION ON WEDNESDAY VISITING LaROCHE COLLEGE.

 

HIGH SCHOOLS WILL TAKE THE NEWS YEARS HOLIDAY OFF, WITH SEVERAL TEAMS RETURNING TO ACTION ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT.
