THE PITTSBURGH PIRATES HAVE SAID GOODBYE TO ANOTHER FAN FAVORITE. THE PIRATES HAVE ANNOUNCED THAT THEY HAVE BOUGHT OUT THE CONTRACT OF JOSH HARRISON FOR $1 MILLION. HARRISON WAS HEADING INTO THE FINAL YEAR OF HIS CONTRACT SCHEDULED TO PAY HIM SOME $10.5 MILLION. HARRISON PLAYED IN JUST 97 GAMES IN 2018 FOR THE BUCS. THE PIRATES ALSO ANNOUNCED THEY HAVE PARTED WAYS WITH TROUBLED 3RD BASEMAN JUNG HO KANG. HE CAME BACK TO THE BUCS JUST THIS YEAR AFTER SPENDING ALL OF 2017 IN SOUTH KOREA, FOLLOWING A 3RD DUI ARREST. THE PIRATES BOUGHT OUT HIS $5.5 MILLION CONTRACT FOR $250,000.

BASEBALL’S FREE AGENT PERIOD BEGINS TODAY. PLAYERS WHO ARE UNRESTRICTED CAN MARKET THEMSELVES TO ANY AND ALL TEAMS IN MLB. PIRATE SHORTSTOP JORDY MERCER IS AMONG THIS GROUP OF PLAYERS. MERCER SAYS HE WOULD LIKE TO STAY WITH THE PIRATES, BUT IS UNLIKELY THAT HE WILL, BECAUSE THE PIRATES HAVE SEVERAL YOUNGER CANDIDATES WHO COULD TAKE HIS SPOT, INCLUDING CURVE SHORTSTOP COLE TUCKER.
