THE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SEASON IS OVER FOR MOST SCHOOLS, BUT 4 BLAIR COUNTY SCHOOLS WILL BE MOVING ON TO THE UPCOMING PLAYOFFS. BISHOP GUILFOYLE AND CLAYSBURG WILL TAKE PART IN THE 1A PLAYOFFS, BELLWOOD ANTIS IN THE 2A FIELD AND HOLLIDAYSBURG WILL PLAY IN THE 5A DIVISION. PLAYOFFS BEGIN THIS COMING WEEKEND. BG IS ONE OF 4 TEAMS TO GET AN OPENING ROUND BYE IN THE 1A BRACKET. MORE ABOUT PLAYOFFS LATER IN THE WEEK.

 

LOCAL COLLEGE FOOTBALL TEAMS HAD A NICE WEEKEND. IUP SCORED THE FIRST 4 TOUCHDOWNS OF THEIR GAME AGAINST SETON HILL AND CRUISED TO A 56-14 WIN SATURDAY AT HOME. THE CRIMSON HAWKS WILL NOW TRAVEL TO EDINBORO THIS SATURDAY. ST. FRANCIS HELD HIGH POWERED DUQUENSE TO UNDER 200 YARDS OFFENSE IN A 20-7 WIN ON THE ROAD SATURDAY. ST. FRANCIS IS NOW 3-5 ON THE SEASON. AND THE TIMES REMAIN TOUGH FOR JUNIATA COLLEGE. THE EAGLES LOST TO DICKINSON 47-14 AT HOME, FALLING TO 0-8.

 

FORMER PIRATE AND CURVE PLAYER STEVE PEARCE IS ON TOP OF THE BASEBALL WORLD TODAY. PEARCE WAS NAMED MVP OF THE WORLD SERIES LAST NIGHT AS THE BOSTON RED SOX BEAT THE LOS ANGELES DODGERS IN THE 2018 SERIES. PEARCE HAS BEEN WITH NUMEROUS CLUBS, BUT BEGAN HIS CAREER WITH THE PIRATES AND PLAYED HERE IN ALTOONA.
