Eric Clapton XMAS Album 10/29/18

Eric Clapton has scored his first chart-topping Christmas album with his first holiday set, Happy XmasBillboard reported that the collection, which was released on October 12th, debuted at Number One on Billboard’s Holiday Albums chart, which tracks seasonal releases annually from mid-October through early-January. Happy Xmas, which sold 6,000 units its first week, also entered the mainstream Billboard 200 albums chart at Number 168.

2018 marks the 30th anniversary of Eric Clapton finally becoming clean and sober after years of struggling with drug and alcohol dependence. Clapton revealed a while back that his initial addiction was actually to sugar. As Clapton and Beatles fans are well aware of, George Harrison‘s 1968 “White Album” track “Savoy Truffle” was written about “Slowhand’s” infamous sweet tooth: [“I couldn’t get through a day without doing something to alter my consciousness. It started with sugar. When I was five, six-years-old, I was cramming sugar down my throat as fast as I could get it down. Sweets — y’know, sugar on bread and butter. I became addicted to sugar, because it changed the way I felt.”] SOUNDCUE (:15 OC: . . .  way I felt)

The tracklisting to Eric Clapton’s Happy Xmas is: “White Christmas,” “Away In A Manger (Once In Royal David’s City),” “For Love On Christmas Day,” “Everyday Will Be Like A Holiday,” “Christmas Tears,” “Home For The Holidays,” “Jingle Bells (In Memory Of Avicii),” “Christmas In My Hometown,” “It’s Christmas,” “Sentimental Moments,” “Lonesome Christmas,” “Silent Night,” “Merry Christmas Baby,” and “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.”
