PENN STATE MENS BASKETBALL COACH PAT CHAMBERS MADE A STOP IN ALTOONA YESTERDAY, AS THE GUEST SPEAKER FOR A LUNCHEON, SPONSORED BY THE UNITED SISTERHOOD SERIES OF BLAIR COUNTY. CHAMBERS RELATED A STORY ABOUT HOW HE CAME CLOSE TO DEATH SOME 16 YEARS AGO, AND HOW IT HAS HELPED HIM SHAPE HIS LIFE AS A COACH, HUSBAND AND FATHER. HE TOLD THE CROWD THAT PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE TOO PROUD TO SEEK HELP WHEN THEY NEED IT.

 

DISTRICT 6 HANDED OUT ITS GIRLS GOLFING CHAMPIONSHIPS YESTERDAY. AND AS SHE HAS DONE ALL SUMMER LONG, MOTHER NATURE HAD A BIG HAND IN THE CHAMPIONSHIPS. RAIN FORCED THE CLASS 2A AND 3A MATCHES TO BE CUT SHORT. AS A RESULT, CENTRAL CAMBRIA CAPTURED THE 2A CHAMPIONSHIP, WHILE STATE COLLEGE TOOK HOME THE 3A CHAMPIONSHIP AT THE SUMMIT COUNTRY CLUB IN CRESSON.

 

WEEK 7 OF THE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SEASON HAS SEVERAL TEAMS LOOKING TO REMAIN UNDEFEATED. THE BIG GAME IN OUR AREA TONITE WILL BE CHESTNUT RIDGE VISITING COUNTY RIVAL BEDFORD. THE LIONS ARE 6-0 IN THEIR FIRST YEAR IN THE LAUREL HIGHLANDS CONFERENCE. OTHER UNBEATENS LOOKING TO STAY THAT WAY ARE CLEARFIELD WHO VISITS TYRONE, BALD EAGLE AREA TRAVELS TO HUNTINGDON, AND RICHLAND, WHO TANGLES WITH ONCE BEATEN BISHOP GUILFOYLE TOMORROW NIGHT AT MANSION PARK.
