THE ALTOONA CURVE IS UP FOR AN AWARD FROM THE EASTERN LEAGUE. THE CURVE HAS BEEN NOMINATED FOR THE CHARLES K. MURPHY PATRIOT AWARD, FORT ITS HONORING OF WAR VETERANS AT EVERY HOME GAME FOR THE PAST SEVERAL SEASONS. A VETERN IS RECOGNIZED ON THE FIELD DURING THE HOME GAMES, AND ALWAYS RECEIVES A STANDING OVATION FROM FANS, PLAYERS, UMPIRES AND CURVE EMPLOYEES. ONE TEAM FROM EACH MINOR LEAGUE IS NOMINATED FOR THE AWARD, WHICH WILL BE PRESENTED IN LAS VEGAS AT THE BASEBALL WINTER MEETINGS IN DECEMBER.

 

A MEMBER OF THE PENN STATE FOOTBALL TEAM IS IN TROUBLE WITH THE LAW. A REPORT IN TODAYS ALTOONA MIRROR INDICATES THAT FRESHMAN LINEMAN RASHEED WALKER IS ACCUSED OF STEALING A BICYCLE ON CAMPUS SEPTEMBER 11TH. HE WAS CAUGHT ON VIDEO TAKING THE BIKE, AND HE REPORTEDLY ADMITTED IT TO AUTHORITIES. WALKER IS CHARGED WITH THEFT AND RECEIVING STOLEN PROPERTY.
