ITS TIME FOR THE ALTOONA CURVE TO DEFEND THEIR 2017 EASTERN LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP. THE CURVE BEGIN THE 2018 PLAYOFFS TONIGHT AGAINST THE AKRON RUBBERDUCKS IN GAME 1 OF THE WESTERN DIVISION PLAYOFFS. THIS IS THE 5TH TIME THE 2 TEAMS HAVE MET IN THE PLAYOFFS, AND THE FIRST 4 RESULTS WERE NOT GOOD FOR ALTOONA.

THE CURVE WERE ELIMINATED BY AKRON IN ALL FOUR OF THOSE PREVIOUS PLAYOFF SERIES’. GAME 1 PITCHERS WILL FEATURE CAM VIEAUX (VIEW) FOR THE CURVE WHO COMPILED A 9-5 RECORD THIS YEAR, GOING UP AGAINST KYLE DOWDY WITH A 1-4 RECORD. FIRST PITCH IS SET FOR 6:35.

GAMES 1 AND 2 WILL BE IN AKRON TONIGHT AND TOMORROW, WITH THE SERIES COMING BACK TO ALTOONA FOR THE WEEKEND. THE RUBBERDUCKS WILL GET A “MAJOR” BOOST TO THEIR LINEUP. FORMER AMERICAN LEAGUE MVP JOSH DONALDSON, JUST ACQUIRED IN A TRADE WITH TORONTO, WILL BE IN THE AKRON LINEUP JUST IN TIME FOR THE PLAYOFFS. IN 2016, THE INDIANS ADDED MAJOR LEAGUE CATCHER YAN GOMES TO THE AKRON LINEUP ALSO JUST IN TIME TO PLAY ALTOONA IN THE DIVISIONAL ROUND.

STILL NO LE’VEON BELL IN STEELERS CAMP. BELL HAS NOT SIGNED HIS FRANCHISE TAG FOR 2018, AND IS IN DANGER OF LOSING $850,000 EACH WEEK THAT HE IS NOT WITH THE TEAM. THERE HAS BEEN NO CONTACT BETWEEN BELL AND THE TEAM AS TO WHEN HE WILL RETURN, IF HE DOES AT ALL. HE DOES HAVE UNTIL WEEK 10 TO REPORT.
