THE ALTOONA CURVE BATS HAVE SUDDENLY GONE QUIET. FOR THE SECOND NIGHT IN A ROW, THE CURVE SCORED A RUN IN THE 1ST INNING, THEN NOTHING AS THE TRENTON THUNDER WON THEIR SECOND GAME IN AS MANY NIGHTS 8-1 AT PNG FIELD. THE LOSS DROPPED ALTOONA BACK INTO A TIE WITH AKRON FOR THE DIVISION LEAD WITH JUST 6 GAMES LEFT TO PLAY.

ELVIS ESCOBAR MADE HIS PITCHING DEBUT FOR ALTOONA LAST NIGHT. ESCOBAR HAD BEEN AN OUTFIELDER WITH THE TEAM LAST YEAR, BUT BECAME A PITCHER THIS SEASON. HE PITCHED 2 1/3 INNINGS WITHOUT GIVING UP A RUN. HE WAS CLOCKED AT 95 MPH IN HIS DEBUT. GAME 3 OF THE SERIES IS TONIGHT AT 6:00. DARIO AGRAZAL WILL TAKE THE MOUND FOR ALTOONA.

THE STATE COLLEGE SPIKES ARE GETTING READY TO WRAP UP THEIR SEASON THIS WEEK. THE SPIKES LOST TO BATAVIA 8-1 LAST NIGHT, AND WILL FINISH OUT THE SEASON AT HOME AGAINST WEST VIRGINIA TONITE THRU FRIDAY.
