THINGS ARE LOOKING GREAT FOR THE ALTOONA CURVE TO DEFEND ITS EASTERN LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP OF 2017. THE CUVRE GAINED GROUND ON BOTH AKRON AND HARRSIBURG LAST NIGHT TO BOLSTER ITS POSITION FOR THE END OF THE SEASON PLAYOFFS.

WILL CRAIG HIT HIS 20TH HOME RUN OF THE SEASON LAST NIGHT AS ALTOONA DEFEATED BINGHAMTON 5-4  AT NYSEG STADIUM. CRAIG, WITH THAT HOME RUN, DROVE IN HIS LEAGUE LEADING 96TH RBI AND IS JUST 4 AWAY FROM A 100 RBI SEASON, WHICH IS RARE IN MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL. CRAIG ALSO BECAME JUST THE 9TH CURVE PLAYER IN HISTORY TO HIT 20 HOME RUNS IN A SEASON.

ALTOONA CREPT TO WITHIN A HALF GAME OF AKRON FOR 1ST PLACE IN THE WESTERN DIVISION, THANKS TO THE RUBBERDUCKS LOSS AT ERIE. THE CURVE ALSO GAINED A GAME ON HARRISBURG WHO ALSO LOST LAST NIGHT, ALTOONA NOW LEADS THE SENATORS BY 5 ½ GAMES FOR THE WILD CARD SPOT IN THE PLAYOFFS.

THE CURVE FINISH UP THEIR ROAD TRIP TONITE IN BINGHAMTON AT 6:35.

THE FIRST AP COLLEGE FOOTBALL POLL OF THE SEASON WAS RELEASED YESTERDAY. IT’S THE USUAL SUSPECTS AT THE TOP OF THE LIST WITH ALABAMA, CLEMSON, AND GEORGIA RANKED 1-2-3. WISCONSIN AND OHIO STATE ROUND OUT THE TOP 5. PENN STATE WILL START THE SEASON AS THE 10TH RANKED TEAM IN THE COUNTRY.

THE STATE COLLEGE SPIKES GOT BACK TO .500 LAST NIGHT WITH A DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP OF WILLIAMSPORT. THE 2 TEAMS WILL NOW GO BACK TO WILLIAMSPORT FOR GAMES TONIGHT AND TOMORROW. THE SPIKES WILL CONCLUDE THEIR SEASON NEXT FRIDAY AT HOME.
