A TOUGH LOSS FOR THE CURVE LAST NIGHT, PREVENTED THEM FROM CLIMBING CLOSER TO 1ST PLACE. THE CURVE LOST TO ERIE IN 11 INNINGS 4- A 3 IN A BIZARRE GAME THAT TOOK 3 ½ HOURS TO PLAY BEFORE 6777 FANS. THE CURVE STRANDED 5 BASE RUNNERS IN THE 2 EXTRA INNINGS, INCLUDING A BASES LOADED 1 OUT SITUATION IN THE 10TH INNING.

 

THE CURVE DIDN’T GET THEIR FIRST HIT UNTIL THE 5TH INNING, FELL BEHIND AND TIED THE GAME IN THE 8TH INNING. MANAGER MICHAEL RYAN WAS EJECTED IN THE 7TH INNING AFTER THE UMPIRING CREW REVERSED A FOUL BALL CALL THAT ENDED UP LOADING THE BASES FOR ERIE, WHICH ENDABLED THEM TO TAKE A 3-2 LEAD.

 

ALTOONA, WHICH REMAINED 2 ½ GAMES BEHIND AKRON FOR THE DIVISION LEAD IS OFF TODAY, BEFORE EMBARKING ON THEIR LONGEST ROAD TRIP OF THE SEASON TOMORROW, HEADING TO  NEW HAMPSHIRE, PORTLAND AND BINGHAMTON BEFORE RETURNING HOME NEXT WEDNESDAY.

 

AFTER BEATING ALTOONA IN THE SEMI-FINALS ON FRIDAY, JOHNSTOWN CAPTURED ITS FIRST EVER AAABA CHAMPIONSHIP ON SATURDAY NIGHT, DEFEATING PERENNIAL POWERHOUSE NEW ORLEANS 3-2 AT POINT STADIUM. JOHNSTOWN ENDED THE TOURNEY AS THE LONE UNBEATEN TEAM.

 

TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY OF “LEGAL” PRACTICE FOR HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAMS IN PENNSYLVANIA. SCHOOLS WILL

ONLY GET ONE WEEK OF “TWO A DAY” PRACTICES BECAUSE OF THE SEASON STARTING EARLIER THAN PAST SEASONS. THE SEASON BEGINS NEXT FRIDAY, AUGUST 24TH.
