CAMBRIA COUTY LOST ONE OF ITS MOST FAMOUS ATHLETES OVER THE WEEKEND. PORTAGE GREAT LEN CHAPPELL DIED LAST WEEK AT HIS WISCONSIN HOME AT AGE 77. CHAPPELL GRADUATED FROM PORTAGE HIGH SCHOOL IN THE LATE 50’S, WENT ON TO STAR AT WAKE FOREST THEN PLAYED 9 YEARS IN THE NBA. HE WAS NAMED AN ALL-STAR DURING THE 1963-64 SEASON.

 

JOHN CONDO IS BACK IN CENTRAL PA, AND LOOKING FOR WORK. THE FORMER OAKLAND RAIDER LONG SNAPPER SAYS SEVERAL TEAMS ARE LOOKING AT HIM FOR THE UPCOMING SEASON. CONDO WAS HOME TO HOST AN ANNUAL GOLFING EVENT LAST WEEK, AND SAYS HIS TIME WITH THE RAIDERS WAS GREAT, BUT NOW HE WANTS TO TURN THE PAGE.

 

MEANWHILE, FORMER PENN STATE QB MATT McGLOIN HAS FOUND ANOTHER HOME, THE FORMER JET, WHO WAS PICKED UP BY OAKLAND AND RELEASED AFTER JUST 3 WEEKS, HAS SIGNED ON WITH THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS. McGLOIN WAS ALSO IN THE EAGLES CAMP LAST SUMMER, BUT WAS CUT AT THE END OF THE PRE-SEASON.

 

THE ALTOONA CURVE WILL FINALLY GET TO PLAY A REGULAR 3 GAME SERIES. AFTER TAKING 3 OF 5 AGAINST ERIE OVER THE  WEEKEND, THE CURVE COME HOME TO FACE THE BOWIE BAYSOX FOR 3 GAMES BEGINNING TONIGHT. THE CURVE LOST TO ERIE 7-1 YESTERDAY, WRAPPING UP THEIR 4TH STRAIGHT 5 GAME SERIES DATING BACK TO THE END OF JUNE. TAYLOR HEARN PITCHES FOR ALTOONA TONIGHT BEGINNING AT 7:05.
