Luke Combs Remembers Being Less Popular Than a Chicken Wing

Things have been going very well for LUKE COMBS.  “Hurricane” and “When It Rains It Pours” have toppedthe Country Airplay chart . . . and it looks like “One Number Away” may do the same.

So, Taste of Country asked if he could have seen this coming a year ago.  He said, “Probably not.  I would have thought we’d have a little bit of success.  But not the year that we’ve had.”

After all, it wasn’t long ago that he was just another singer trying to get people to pay attention. “[It’s] just hard to imagine that five years ago, I couldn’t get a guy to stop eating a chicken wing and listen to me play.”

I guess you have to take the good with the bad.  These days he’s so busy that he doesn’t even have time to goof off.

“Sometimes people are like, ‘Why don’t you ever hang out?’  I’ve got 20 people that count on me every day to be out playing shows, so I kinda don’t have that luxury of hanging out as much as I’d like to.”
