SEVERAL LOCAL FOOTBALL TEAMS LOOK TO ADVANCE TO THE STATE SEMI-FINALS THIS COMING WEEKEND.

 

3 TIME DEFENDING STATE CHAMPION BISHOP GUILFOYLE LOOKS TO ADVANCE TO THE SEMIS FOR THE 4TH STRAIGHT YEAR WHEN THEY TAKE ON HOMER CENTER AT MANSION PARK FRIDAY NIGHT. THE GAME IS ALSO FOR THE DISTRTICT 6 CLASS 1A CHAMPIONSHIP. KICKOFF IS SET FOR 7:07 PM. THE MARAUDERS WILL PUT THEIR 59 GAME WINNING STREAK ON THE LINE, WHICH IS THE 3RD LONGEST STREAK IN THE COUNTRY.

 

ON SATURDAY, THE HOLLIDAYSBURG GOLDEN TIGERS, FRESH OFF OF THEIR DISTRICT 6-8-10 CHAMPIONSHIP, WILL NOT TRAVEL FAR FOR ITS NEXT GAME. THE TIGERS TAKE ON WPIAL CHAMPION GATEWAY AT MANSION PARK AT 1:00.

 

IN OTHER GAMES INVOLVING AREA TEAMS, FOREST HILLS WILL PLAY SHARON IN CLASS 3A AT PENNS MANOR HIGH SCHOOL ON SATURDAY AT 1 PM, AND STATE COLLEGE WILL TAKE ON POWERHOUSE PINE-RICHLAND OF THE WPIAL AT HEMPFIELD HIGH SCHOOL IN GREENSBURG ALSO AT 1 PM SATURDAY IN THE CLASS 6A SEMI-FINALS.

 

PENN STATE REAMINED VITRUALLY IN THE SAME POSITIONS IN THE WEEKLY FOOTBALL POLLS RELEASED YESTERDAY. THE LIONS ARE 11TH IN THE COACHES POLL, WHILE THEY MOVED UP ONE SPOT TO 12TH IN THE AP POLL. THE PLAYOFF POLL COMES OUT TOMORROW NIGHT.

 

THE UNDEFEATD IUP CRIMSON HAWKS WILL GET INTO PLAYOFF ACTION THIS COMING SATURDAY. IUP WILL TAKE ON WEST CHESTER IN THE SECOND ROUND OF THE DIVISION 2 FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS. KICKOFF IS SET FOR NOON AT MILLER STADIUM. IUP IS RANKED NUMBER 1 IN THE NORTHEAST REGION.
