THE ALTOONA HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM AND SEVERAL OTHERS MAY BE HEADING EAST. A REPORT IN TODAYS ALTOONA MIRROR SUGGESTS THAT ALTOONA HAS APPLIED FOR ADMISSION INTO THE MID PENN ATHLETIC LEAGUE. ALTOONA WAS IN THE LEAGUE SEVERALYEARS AGO, BUT LEFT FOLLOWING AN UGLY INCIDENT WITH THE HARRISBURG FOOTBALL TEAM.

TEAMS THAT WOULD COMPETE IN THE LEAGUE ARE FOOTBALL, BASKETBALL AND BOYS VOLLEYBALL. ALTOONA NEEDS A TWO THIRDS MAJORITY OF THE 30 MEMBER SCHOOLS TO GAIN ENTRY INTO THE LEAGUE. A VOTE ON THE ISSUE IS SLATED FOR TOMORROW AT MILTON HERSHEY HIGH SCHOOL. ALTOONA CURRENTLY COMPETES IN THE WPIAL FOR FOOTBALL ONLY, AND AS AN INDEPENDENT FOR OTHER SPORTS.

BOTH HOLLIDAYSBURG BOYS AND GIRLS SOCCER TEAMS ADVANCED TO THE DISTRICT 6 CLASS 3A FINALS LAST NIGHT. THE BOYS BEAT BISOHP CARROLL 4-1, WHILE THE GIRLS BEAT HUNTINGDON 5-1. THE BOYS WILL PLAY BELLEFONTE ON WEDNESDAY AT MANSION PARK, WHILE THE GIRLS WILL PLAY SOMERSET AT MANSION PARK ALSO ON WEDNESDAY.
