A Handy Adder, also known as a Easy or EZ Adder, is a handheld device that lets shoppers add the cost of each item they put into their shopping carts to keep a running total. Several different models were made, and all had separate buttons for dollars, dimes and cents. To use the device, the shopper simply clicks the appropriate button the required number of times. For example, an item for sale at $3.49 would require three clicks of the dollar button, four of the dime button and nine of the cents button. The user must zero the running total to start a new tally. Thanks to pocket calculators, the Handy Adder is relatively obsolete as of 2015, and it is rarely found for sale, but some shoppers still prefer its ease of use.
