Local Sports for 7/12/18

THE EASTERN LEAGUE ALL STAR GAME ENDED IN A 9 INNING TIE, BUT THE TIE WAS NOT BROKEN IN THE TRADITIONAL WAY.

A HITTING CONTEST EVENTUALLY GAVE THE WESTERN DIVISION THE WIN 5-4. EACH TEAM CHOSE ONE HITTER TO TAKE SWINGS FOR A 2 MINUTE PERIOD. THE PLAYER WHO ACCUMULATED THE MOST POINTS FOR HITS COLLECTED WOULD BE THE WINNER.

 

WILL CRAIG OF THE ALTOONA CURVE WAS THAT HITTER FOR THE WEST DIVISION. HE BEAT OUT ZACH GREEN OF READING TO WIN THE GAME FOR THE WEST. CRAIG ALSO TOOK PART IN THE HOME RUN DERBY ON TUESDAY FINISHING 3RD.

 

THE CURVE GET BACK TO REAL BASEBALL TONITE WHEN THEY START A 5 GAME SERIES IN ERIE.

 

BASKETBALL IS A LONG WAY OFF, BUT THE NON CONFERENCE SCHEDULE FOR PENN STATE CONTAINS AN INTERESTING MIX. THE LIONS WILL PLAY TEAMS FROM THE BIG EAST, ACC, NORTHEAST, SEC AND POSSBILY THE BIG 12. SOME OF THE OPPONENTS INCLUDE DEPAUL, COLGATE, NC STATE, NORTH FLORIDA, DUQUENSE, ALABAMA AND UMBC.
