BELLWOOD ANTIS HAS A NEW HEAD FOOTBALL COACH AND ATHLETIC DIRECTOR. NICK LOVRICH HAS BEEN TABBED TO SUCCEED JOHN HAYS AS THE HEAD FOOTBALL COACH. HAYES RETIRED AFTER 39 YEARS ON THE SIDELINES. MEANWHILE, THE DISTRICT ALSO HIRED CHARLIE BURCH AS THE NEW A.D. BOTH HAVE BEEN LONG TIME COACHES IN THE BELLWOOD SYSTEM. LOVRICH WILL ALSO CONTINUE TO COACH TRACK AND FIELD. BURCH HAS BEEN JUNIOR HIGH FOOTBALL COACH FOR THE PAST 21 YEARS. HE IS NOW ON THE JOB AS ATHLETIC DIRECTOR.

 

GLENDALE WILL HAVE A NEW GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH NEXT WINTER. THE DISTRICT HAS ANNOUNCED THAT BETH CAMPBELL HAS BEEN HIRED TO GUIDE THE LADY VIKINGS PROGRAM. CAMPBELL WAS HEAD COACH OF GRACE PREP IN STATE COLLEGE, AND IS A GRADUATE OF ALTOONA AREA HIGH SCHOOL.

 

THE ALTOONA CURVE BULLPEN CONTINUES TO BE A PROBLEM FOR THE TEAM. MONTANA DURAPAU GAVE UP A 2 RUN HOMER IN THE 9TH INNING LAST NIGHT AS READING GRABBED A 4-2 VICTORY IN THE FIRST GAME OF THE 3 GAME SERIES. GAME 2 IS SET FOR TONIGHT AT 7:00.

 

THERE WAS SOME TENSION BETWEEN THE 2 TEAMS. CURVE PITCHER EDUARDO VERA THREW A PITCH BEHIND PHILLIES BATTER JAN HERNANDEZ IN THE 3RD INNING. THE NEXT PITCH SAILED OVER HERNANDEZ’ HEAD, AND THE TWO BENCHES AND BULLPENS EMPTIED. NO PUNCHES WERE THROWN, BUT THERE IS TENSION BETWEEN THE TEAMS.
